Surströmming

The first mate had set a target for a culinary adventure - she wants to try surströmming, that is baltic herring fermented according the traditional process and skill that Höga Kusten has kept up.

Ulvön is famous for two things: the Ulvön regatta in July and the surströmming so it was excellent location for the tasting. Unfortunately I did not get to participate this event as the crew had this treat for lunch in a restaurant.

However, the first mate reports that I probably would have enjoyed the smell that is very unexpected one for a food item. And the taste was reported to be for an advanced pickled herring eater. As a conclusion the crew stated that they enjoyed this strömming preparation that was served on thin crispy bread with boiled potatoes, red onion and sour cream.
