Activity under the spruces

I have been occupied last weekends at my cabins by the activity under this spruce tree. I do several visits outdoors daily, both day light and darkness, and every time I check out this. Of course the crew has less developed senses and they cannot detect what I can. Once the first mate saw a little round, furry and very fast object escaping from the tree as we arrived.

To the Winter Harbor - Part 5 - Supermoon

There must be something to this place. On our arrival day we were treated with double rainbow followed by September super moon. The lunar eclipse that followed all this in the night we did not know about until the harbor manager told us next morning. Apparently, the nautical practicalities had taken our attention from the celestial activities.

Our way to Winter Harbor - Part 3 -To Båtskärnäs

Early morning start just after sunrise.

Charming fisherman farm in Kemi archipelago.

Traditional fishing equipment.

More lovely island houses.

Tornio harbor.

Seskarö island bridge in the distance. Our vessel has few meters too much
hight to use the route under the bridge.

Nice going around Seskarö.

Approaching Kalix' Båtskärnäs.

To the Winter harbor - Part 1

It happens every year too soon. October gets closer and closer and even it feels like it is perfect for sailing you still need to think about the Winter. Now, last weekend of September after careful weather window watching we decided to start our way to the Winter harbor. First leg was to Kropsu where we arrived in full darkness, only to overnight and as the Sun rose we started our way to Kemi. We knew that the strong wind was approaching from the South and that we needed to keep up minimum 5 knots per hour. First motoring, then sailing, we got to Kemi in decent winds. The heavier weather started only couple of hours after our arrival.

Under Aurora Borealis

We have never before seen Aurora Borealis reflecting from the sea. What an amazing night that was!
