Happy Midsummer! Hyvää Juhannusta!

This picture is from the last Midsummer, from one of my very first visit to the vessel at home marina in Oulu. See how young I look like ;-)

Weekend Weather 2 - Pouring Rain

As you can see I had quite extreme conditions to work on the deck last weekend. And working hard was on the agenda; the bird availability was just excellent and I was super-busy. I will post more examples on that.

The Midsummer weather forecast forecasts sailing. I am ready for some serious island life.

Perfect Pendolino Ride

Last weekend I travelled with the first mate in a Pendolino train. What a smooth ride! The two hours were so relaxing that I just slept. Very quiet and pleasant. Much more pleasant than the car. Thanks VR for the picture!

However I need to mention that there was some stressors involved. My seat was number 55. As you can see seat 61 is a special large dog seat. And you know what that means when there are dogs around - the first mate may ignore that she is there for me and only for me, not for any dogs. This time the situation was in control, even though she told me that oh look how nice dog! As if a dog could impress me... She stayed put at her seat 56.

Looking forward new train trips!

Boat cooking

The first mate wanted to share some boat cooking with you.

I would not eat this preparation, I had my pilgrim mussel sashimi style. However my observation on the captain was that he considered this dish at least edible, maybe even enjoyable.

The recipe can be found here.

Career planning

A siberian cat reaches her maturity at age of four years. This year I have my second birthday so I have started to think about my career as a seacat. I definitely enjoy this job. The only con is that it is a seasonal job. Of course there is the planning and preparation but I have learned appreciate the execution  in the vessel more and more after the long Winter.  As we met some nice international sailors I got a idea about becoming an international seacat. Not an bad idea at all. I have some contemplation to do!

Birdie birdie busy busy...

Last week our subarctic Oulu was hit by a heat wave. Change from the refreshing sea winds was not a pleasant experience especially as I haven't totally changed to my summer coat yet. It was so hot I did not feel like writing my posts at all. Now we have reached more pleasant Summer weather and I believe we are soon back to the normal summery weather pattern of rainy 10C ;-)

As I missed my posts last week I have catch up and start from the previous weekend.

I was busy, really busy. Seagulls, oystercatchers (no oysters growing up here that the first mate considers as a disadvantage), terns, goosanders, sandpipers, mallards were everywhere, 24/7, especially during the nights... I can tell you I mostly slept the two days after returning to out lair on land.

In addition to my bird business the weekend was similar to the boat preparation weekend sessions last year. The captain installs, installs and installs. He gets very exited about installing new equipment. The first mate arranges, organizes and manages equipment and other things. She gets very exited about the "sea that makes her longing for new adventures", "lovely scent of growing birch leaves enfolding us"and "swallows surging and shrieking in the eternal blue of the Summer night sky", and other such poetic things about early June and the Sea.

The business as usual.

In the Water

Finally, the vessel has been launched and I have a tough weekend behind me. I will report as I recover.
